Recently we finished our second year of the Bilingual Voices Summer Camp. The students learned not only about Spanish grammar and writing but also about Latin American culture and the importance of being bilingual for having improved opportunities in their future. Over the two-week summer camp bilingual professionals from the government, private sector as well as the not-for-profit sector who shared about their work and how their ability to fluently speak two languages allowed them improved opportunities in their life and career.

The program was also highlighted in the local press both in the weekly newspaper Latino Times and the television station Telemundo. From the success of the program, current plans are to extend the program from just a summer camp but also a yearlong academic program. For more information email programas@umbrellainitiatives.org.
