Community groups, across Peru, in coordination with Umbrella Initiatives have been implementing the Backpack Project this past January and February.
As of Friday, February 21, 2014 OVER 750 boys and girls in eight elementary schools have participated in the fun filled week of academic reinforcement. Unlike the normal school day each class is guided by the principles of learning and having fun. Additionally, each day the students enjoy a healthy snack, at least 30 minutes of athletic games, and dedicated sessions to express creativity in drawing, writing, or other disciplines.
At the end of the week every student received a backpack with the school supplies they need to start the school year in March 2014.
In the next two weeks the Backpack Project will be coming to a close with three more projects in elementary schools located in Lima, Piura and Huancayo.
