On Friday, January 20, 2017 we completed the third week of the Backpack Project in the community of San Jeronimo, Cusco, Peru. Every Backpack Project has certain components that are similar, however, this past week we noticed one unique aspect of the program: the work and role of the mothers of the children in ensuring the week is a success.
Daily the mothers from the community would arrive early and prepare the snack and lunch that we all enjoyed using the freshest of ingredients and filled with love for their children and community. Additionally, all the mothers of the 74 children who participated in the Backpack Project participated in the closing celebration. We applaud their work and want to continue to partner not only with local community groups but also the parents that ensure children are ready and prepared for the school daily.
